Time for PsyQ - new series

Time for PsyQ (Quantum Talents 1)

by Marti Ward

As new psychic abilities emerge in the shadow of the hadron collider, Airly must strive desperately to save one of her friends.

Available for preorder now in a paperback and ebook 'educational edition' (publishing 11 and 23 December resp.)

This is set in my 'Appearance of Magic' universe that blurs the boundary of science and magic, science fiction and fantasy.
Thank you for your interest in my Science Fiction. I do have further books in the Paradisi Lost Missions series in the pipeline (Casindra Prey and Moraturi Star), but COVID got in the way and I have been side-tracked with other earth-based stories within the same universe where quantum incidents and mysteriously capable cats provide the background to a developmental story of a young protagonist thrown into a challenging new situation.

In fact, there are other sequences in progess in other universes that are facets of the same multiverse where the science is interpreted as magic, and we meet some legendary characters.

Although this book stars an eleven-year-old, with most of the characters being of similar age or early teens, it is intended to be challenging for an eleven-year-old - introducing the reader to real science and technology – while also enjoyable and quite meaty for young adults and older readers. There is also a strong police presence, and in particular Inspector Humble is already the focus of a sequel story, Humble Beginnings, that will feature in a forthcoming Fantastic Schools anthology. and relates to a sequel novel, School for PsyQ.

My 'Appearance of Magic' premise is based around the same idea that Arthur C Clarke expressed: any sufficiently advance science/technology will look like magic. In the PsyQ series we see the appearance of such magic-like quantum talents. The developmental approach to young characters is strongly influenced by my love of the PERN/Dragonrider books of Anne McCaffrey. While the mystery/crime-solving elements are influenced by Isaac Asimov's Caves of Steel sequence.
